Virtual Maintenance Engineering Platform (VMEP)
The implementation of the VMEP will facilitate advanced technological changes, integrating
the developing engineer with the technology to facilitate repairs and improvements
from any corporate location. The field service representatives will no longer require
extensive training in developing technologies, significantly reducing the costs
of warranty repairs and in-field upgrades.
The figure above depicts the notional concept of the Virtual Maintenance Engineering
Platform (VMEP) being developed by GP. The current capabilities are available:
- Chat
- Data sharing
- Application sharing
- Audio & video
- Reconfigurability
GP has developed a demonstration Virtual Maintenance Engineering Platform
(VMEP) shown above. GP has successfully taken control of a Radio Frequency
Distribution and Control System (RFDACS), part of the Common Submarine Radio Room
(CSRR) simulator, and a test set for the High Frequency Sail Array from several
remote locations to perform remote maintenance. The current demonstration system
can support interfacing by up to 35 remote locations for each session. Access to
the VMEP is on demand.
